Payment methods — Ruleproof presets
Which payment methods a shopper is offered, and when.
Each of these is a ready-made rule you can adopt in one click inside Ruleproof, then change however you like. Nothing runs until you say so, and every rule can be previewed against your own store first.

Turn off a payment method in some countries
I want to turn off a payment method in certain countries
Hide a payment method when the order is going to one of the countries you name.
Why: Shopify switches a payment method on or off for the whole store, so a method that works at home is offered everywhere you sell. Cash on delivery is ordinary retail in some markets and close to unworkable in others, where couriers will not collect and the parcel returns unpaid. Judged on the SHIPPING country, because the risk sits with whoever has to collect the money at the door.
Turn off a payment method on subscriptions
I want to keep offline payment off subscription orders
Hide a payment method when every item in the cart is a subscription or pre-order.
Why: A subscription bills again on its own schedule, and a method needing someone present to hand over money cannot bill anything — so the first order succeeds and every renewal fails. That surfaces weeks later as churn, on a customer who believes they are still subscribed. Applies only when EVERY line is recurring: a cart mixing a subscription with a one-off item still contains a sale you can fulfill, so it is left alone.
Rename a payment method
I want to give a payment method a clearer name at checkout
Show a different name for one payment method, at checkout only.
Why: Manual payment methods carry the name whoever set them up typed, and "Bank Deposit" or "Custom" tells a buyer nothing about what happens next. That is where the "has my order gone through?" emails come from. A clearer label at checkout answers the question before it is asked, without changing the method itself or anything your finance exports depend on.
Turn off a payment method on big orders
I want to turn off a payment method on high-value orders
Hide a payment method once the order reaches a value you choose.
Why: Dispute and chargeback risk concentrates on your largest orders, and some payment methods carry more of it — or cost more in fees — than the convenience is worth at that size. Shopify switches a method on or off for every checkout alike. So the only native choice is to lose it on the small orders where it helps conversion, or keep it on the large ones where it costs you.
