What's new in Ruleproof

Every change that affects your checkout, newest first.

A blocking rule now shows it worked, instead of an empty activity log

  • A rule that stops checkout prevents the order, so the activity log used to read empty however hard the rule was working — the only evidence was an order that never showed up.
  • The activity log now shows when a live rule matched a real checkout, even when that checkout never became an order, so you can see a blocking rule doing its job in real time.
  • A row means the rule matched — never that it definitely stopped a sale you would otherwise have kept. That part still takes judgment.

A ready-made rule for orders billed in one country and shipped to another

  • A new ready-made rule holds checkout when the billing country is not the country the order ships to — a pattern worth a second look, which Shopify’s own free Fraud Control only reports after the order already exists.
  • It starts in monitor mode on purpose. A mismatch is a reason to review an order, not proof of anything, so you see who it would have stopped on your own traffic before it stops anybody.
  • The preview understands billing country now, so you can try the rule on a test shopper before it goes anywhere near a real checkout.
  • Paying for Ruleproof also earns you 1,000 extra tag updates a month in Rules2Tag, our tagging app, for as long as you hold it. A trial counts.

The free plan now runs two live rules

  • The free plan runs two rules live on your real store at once, up from one. Nothing else about it changed — unlimited draft and monitor rules, the preview, the activity log and the linter are all still included, with no time limit and no card.
  • Rules that combine conditions — with and, or, or an exception — still need Unlimited. A rule using one condition is a free rule, however many of them you run.
  • A new ready-made rule arranges your shipping options into the order buyers see, and hides the ones you never want offered.

Rules can match a product tag or collection — and now run at checkout

  • New checkout conditions: match the cart against a product tag or a collection, in addition to the existing product, country, cart total, weight, customer email and currency conditions.
  • Both conditions run at checkout, in monitor mode, and in the preview — not just some of them — because a tag or collection rule is resolved to the matching products the moment you publish it, at zero extra cost against the checkout query-complexity limit.
  • Two new ready-made presets use the new conditions directly: hide an option for a tagged product, or restrict checkout to an allow-listed collection.

Live on the Shopify App Store

  • Ruleproof is approved and published — you can install it from the Shopify App Store.
  • Every rule still starts in draft, and nothing touches a real checkout until you set it live.
  • The free plan is a genuinely free plan on a live store: one live rule, no time limit, no card.

  • Plain-English rules to hide, rename or reorder shipping and payment methods, or block checkout, on country, postcode, cart total, weight, product, customer email or currency.
