What's new in Rules2Tag

Every change that affects your tags, newest first.

Search the whole site from any page, presets ranked by adoption, and a prompt to backfill after building from a preset

  • A search field in the nav on every page finds guides, apps and ready-made presets from one query, with results grouped by section instead of one flat list.
  • The preset gallery has a new "Works with Ruleproof" category for presets that apply a tag Ruleproof's checkout rules can key on — genuinely better with both apps installed, not a marketing label.
  • Presets are now ordered by how often other merchants have actually built a rule from them, as a tiebreak within relevance.
  • Building a rule from a preset now offers a one-click prompt to run a backfill sweep over your existing orders, so records from before the rule existed get tagged too, not only new ones going forward.

See what a rule will do before you save it, plus import/export and a clearer activity log

  • Saving a rule now shows a preview of what it will tag first, so you see the effect before it goes live rather than after.
  • Export any rule as JSON and import it back — into the same store or a different one — instead of rebuilding it by hand.
  • The activity log now names WHICH condition caused each match, not just that a rule matched.
  • A trailing * on a tag you remove clears the whole matching tag family in one go, instead of listing every variant.
  • A dedicated analytics page shows tagging activity over time, separate from the activity log.

Export your tag activity as a spreadsheet

  • An Export CSV button on the Activity log downloads what the app has tagged and untagged — date, rule, record type, record id, whether the tag went on or came off, and the tags themselves.
  • The file follows the filters you are looking at. Filter to one rule, or to removals only, and that is what you get — not the whole log.
  • It covers the whole filtered set rather than the page on screen, and when there is more than one file should carry it says so in the file itself instead of stopping quietly.

A bigger free tier, a bigger top-up, and a longer trial

  • The free plan went from 100 to 500 tag updates a month — roughly 10 to 15 orders a day at one or two tags each. Nothing to do; it applies to every store already on Free.
  • The $5 one-time top-up went from 500 to 2,000 tag updates. It still never expires and still stacks on top of your monthly allowance.
  • The Unlimited trial is now 30 days rather than 14.

Rules2Tag now reads your store and suggests rules that fit it

  • The dashboard opens with what a scan of your own store actually found — "38 of your last 250 orders came from someone who had already ordered" — rather than a list of rules you could theoretically build.
  • Each suggestion opens the matching ready-made rule with its form already filled in, and every rule still starts as a draft: nothing is tagged until you say so.
  • A suggestion disappears once you have built it. Nothing you already did is suggested back to you.
  • When the scan cannot read part of your store it says so, rather than reporting a zero — a count you see is a count we actually measured.
  • The admin is available in German.

Published on the Shopify App Store

  • Rules2Tag is live at apps.shopify.com/rules2tag (Shopify reference 128854).
  • Every rule still starts in monitoring: it shows what it would tag before it tags anything.

Core feature set complete

  • Plain-English rules that tag customers, orders and products by spend, order count, order total, payment method, country, vendor, type, price, currency and more — no code.
  • Tags removed automatically the moment a record stops matching, with no scheduled cleanup step.
  • A dry-run preview on any real customer, order or product before a rule changes anything.
  • Backfill sweeps over existing history (60 days by default; full history pending an additional Shopify approval), alongside real-time tagging as records arrive.
  • Recurring re-checks on a schedule, so a rule stays accurate even between webhook events.
  • Launched with Free (100 tag updates/month), Unlimited ($18/month, 14-day trial) and a $5 one-time 500-tag top-up — the same price on every Shopify plan, including Plus.
