Frequently asked questions

The questions merchants actually ask before installing an auto-tagging app — the free tier, what a rule can read, and what happens to your data.

Do tags come off automatically, or do I have to remove them myself?

They come off on their own. Every rule is evaluated again whenever the record it tagged changes, so the moment a customer, order or product stops matching a condition, Rules2Tag removes the tag it applied — no scheduled cleanup job, no manual pass through your admin to find stale tags. This is the app's whole reason to exist: a one-time export or a Flow workflow can add a tag, but nothing native takes it off again when it stops being true.

Is the free plan really free, indefinitely?

Yes. Free includes 100 tag updates a month (an update is a tag added or removed) — roughly 2–3 orders a day if each order picks up one or two tags — plus unlimited rules on any record type, real-time tagging as orders and records arrive, and the dry-run preview. On a live, paying store, at the same price on every Shopify plan including Plus. No card is required to stay on it.

Do I have to touch my theme or add any code?

No. Rules2Tag installs from the App Store, opens inside your Shopify admin, and writes tags through the Admin API only. Nothing is injected into your theme or storefront, so there is no code to add and nothing to remove if you uninstall.

What can a rule be based on?

Lifetime spend, order count, order total, payment method, country, vendor, product type, price, currency, and a large set of other customer, order and product attributes — combined with plain "is"/"is not"/"is one of" comparisons, no regex or code required.

Can I apply a rule to records I already have, not just new ones?

Yes — run a rule over your existing customers, orders and products at any time, or preview it first with a dry run that changes nothing. Backfills cover your full order history, not just a recent window: Shopify granted the wider order-history access this app asks for. The app still tells you plainly in Settings which access your store actually has, rather than assuming it.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Shopify's mandatory redaction webhooks erase your rules, the tag-activity history and the customer profile Rules2Tag derived, 48 hours after uninstall. A handful of hashed, non-identifying billing facts (a trial-granted flag, a paid-through date, prepaid credits) survive specifically so a paid balance is honoured if you reinstall — the full detail is in the privacy policy.

What does it cost?

Free covers 100 tag updates a month, forever, on a live store — roughly 2–3 orders a day at one or two tags each. Unlimited is $18/month with a 14-day free trial and removes the monthly cap. A 500-tag top-up is $5 one-time, never expires, stacks with your monthly allowance, and also unlocks backfill sweeps for a shop that would rather pay per batch than subscribe. Billing runs through Shopify and appears on your normal Shopify invoice.

Which Shopify plans does this work on?

All of them, at the same price — Rules2Tag does not gate any plan or feature behind Shopify Plus. Several competitors in this category charge Plus stores several times the entry price or exclude Plus from their cheapest tier; Rules2Tag charges every store the same.

Who is behind this?

Sushinet, an independent Shopify developer studio based in Sydney, Australia. We are deliberately small: we build a short list of apps rather than a wide catalogue, and support is answered by the people who wrote the code — not a ticket queue. Our registered business details are on the privacy policy.
