Undo History · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions merchants actually ask before installing a product-change alarm — what it tracks, what it does not, and what happens to your data.

Does it undo a flagged change automatically?

No. A flag is a mark and a written reason on a change that already happened — undoing it is always your decision, one click, every time. Undo History does not know a 90% price drop was a mistake; it might be a genuine sale. Nothing is edited, blocked or emailed on its own.

What does it actually track?

Price, title, description, status, inventory policy, tags and vendor. It does not track metafields, collections, images as files, translations, or product creation — a merchant expecting metafield history would be mis-sold, so this app says so plainly rather than letting the omission surface later.

What are the eleven alarms?

Fixed rules, each its own switch — six start on. Price and inventory: a big price drop with no sale set up, a price crossing a floor you set, overselling switched on, a product taken off the storefront or stopped being purchasable. Listing integrity: a title or description emptied out, a sale silently ended by clearing the compare-at price, a handle or vendor changed. Keystroke slips: a repeated-letter run or a common misspelling in a title or description — no dictionary, so a brand name is never flagged just for being unusual.

Does it back up my products?

No — it keeps a copy of the fields it tracks, not a full backup. Product images are references, not files: Shopify stops serving a deleted product's image at origin, so whether a restore recovers the photo depends on whether a CDN edge still holds it. "Backup" would promise more than this app can keep, which is why the word is not used.

What happens if Shopify permanently deletes a product?

Undo History keeps a recovery copy of every product it watches, so a deletion — accidental or from a bad app — is not the end of it. Restoring rebuilds it as a new product: a new product ID, no metafields, no collection membership, no translations, and the image is recovered on a best-effort basis. Not the old one back — a new one built from what was tracked.

Do I have to touch my theme or add any code?

No. Undo History installs from the App Store, opens inside your Shopify admin, and reads and writes product fields through the Admin API only. Nothing is injected into your theme or storefront, so there is no code to add and nothing to remove if you uninstall.

Does it read anything about my customers?

No. Access is read_products and write_products only — no order or customer scope is requested, no webhook topic carries a buyer's identity, and there is nothing to protect because nothing is collected. This is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight: a change-tracking tool for the catalogue has no reason to see who bought it.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Shopify sends the mandatory shop/redact webhook 48 hours after uninstall, and Undo History erases the tracked-field baselines and the full change history at that point. A handful of hashed, non-identifying billing facts survive specifically so a paid balance and trial history are honoured correctly on a reinstall — the full detail is in the privacy policy.

What does it cost?

Free is $0, forever, on a live store: every tracked change recorded, one-click undo, flagging with reasons, and deleted-product recovery — history older than 30 days is not listed. Unlimited is $6.99/month with a 14-day free trial and removes the 30-day window, so you can undo a change or recover a product from any point in the past. The same price on every Shopify plan, and no per-product limit on either tier.

Who is behind this?

Sushinet, an independent Shopify developer studio based in Sydney, Australia. We are deliberately small: we build a short list of apps rather than a wide catalogue, and support is answered by the people who wrote the code — not a ticket queue. Our registered business details are on the privacy policy.
